About

Who makes Cellar and writes these guides

I'm Klaus Jakobsen, an independent app developer in Denmark. I build Cellar on my own, and I write every guide on this site.

The app

Cellar is a wine inventory for iPhone and iPad. You take a photo of the label, it reads the text right on your phone, and you put the bottle on the rack and row where it actually sits. When you open one, it goes into the history. There's no account to sign up for, and your cellar stays on your device. You can get it on the App Store.

How I write the guides

Each guide answers one practical question about keeping wine at home: how to count it, where to store it, how to find a bottle, what to open next. When a guide says Cellar can do something, I check that against the app's code first. When it says something about storage, aging or whether a wine has gone bad, it links to where that comes from, usually WSET or Decanter, right next to the claim.

I'm an app developer, not a sommelier, and I don't work in the wine industry. So you won't find made-up tasting panels, lab tests or hands-on reviews here. If a guide walks through an example, it says so. Every guide shows the date it was last updated.

Spotted a mistake?

If something is wrong, a source link is dead, or the advice doesn't match what you've seen with your own bottles, email me at devjakobsen@gmail.com. I'll fix the guide and update its date.
